Jesus Hopped The A-Train – Trafalgar Studios – 6th to 24th April

New Greenbelt trustee Esther Baker is the Artistic Director of the Synergy Theatre Project, which works with prisoners and ex-prisoners to make performance in both theatres and prisons.

Synergy's current production - Jesus Hopped The 'A' Train - has been directed by Esther, and is on at the Trafalgar Studios in London from 6th to 24th April 2010. It's a play by American writer Stephen Adly Guirgis about two men in prison in Rikers Island, and their differing approaches to faith and criminal justice.

It is performed by a company of professional and ex-prisoner actors, and is sure to be an energising and thought-provoking piece. Book tickets here, or phone the box office on 0844 871 7632.

There are also some pre-show talks on Tuesday 13th and Tuesday 20th April at 6.15pm. Entitled "Should life mean life?" and "Punishment and reform: Where's the balance?", speakers include Erwin James (Guardian columnist and former prisoner), Dr Bob Johnson (Psychiatrist and co-founder of the James Nayler Foundation), Juliet Lyon (Director of the Prison Reform Trust), Tim Robertson (Koestler Trust, the UK's best known prison arts charity) and Clive Stafford Smith (Reprieve). Tickets are £5, or £3 when booking tickets for a show.

And why not check out some of Synergy's projects, or become a fan of them on Facebook?
